Theater for Transforming Community
In 2010, for the first time we used this theory through “Protiddhoni Media and Music- The Sacrifice Trust”. The opportunity was created because of the partnership with a local organization those who are working with the community. It is a great opportunity by using this concept of theater for spreading the gospel by churches in the community. For this we have started to give training how to do this.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” - Romans 12:2
Vision of TTC
Vision of TTC has been prepared in the light of Romans 12:2. It says “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
In the light of this verse TTC follows 3 rules:
Not like the era (Philippians 4:8)
1. Not like the era (Philippians 4:8) but concentrate on what is good, just and worthy of respect.
Renewing mind (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Renewing mind (2 Corinthians 5:17) leaving old matters and preparing thyself in a new dimension.
Objectives of TTC
TTC is a vision that will influence the society. Depending on above mentioned vision and rules objectives of TTC are:
1. Self-evaluation and observing the circumstances.
2. Get the initial idea about theater.
3. Awakening inner strength and grow.
4. Use theater as a material of communication for brining positive change in society.
5. Participating in own field or in large scale.
6. Becoming representative of change to prevent the depletion of social values.
7. Develop virtues and expertise.
8. Influencing society to prevent social incompetency.
Training manual
this training manual has been prepared for workshop. This workshop is basically made for drama training. It has been made by combining the basic idea about theater. Those who don’t know anything about theater this training will give them enough encouragement. Those who haven’t got any training regarding acting but have done acting for them this training will be helpful.
1st way: For social development worker.
2nd way: for church development worker.
We will give a certificate upon accomplishing the whole manual. If someone doesn’t attend 80% time, we will not give the certificate.We have 3 scripts for social awareness. These scripts are based on Illiteracy, Acid violence, and early marriage. These 3 dramas we have performed in different districts in Bangladesh.
Testimony from Artist: Leonard
I give praise my heavenly father because He is worthy to be praised. I have never thought of working in expanding God’s kingdom. From my early childhood I have tremendous interest about stage drama. In my childhood I had a dream of becoming a drama artist. I never thought that we can give glory to God through drama. In 2009, 1st July I joined Sacrifice Ministry as a full time minister. However, I never thought that God will use my childhood dream for expanding His kingdom!
In November 2009, we went to Kustia for a drama performance. We were 13 people in the team. I had a lot of chance of doing stage drama in my life but I will never be able to forget that day’s memory. The drama was staged in a school’s playground. Thousands of people had watched the drama. The theme of that drama was liberation was but God’s word was there as well. I got the evidence of the strength of God’s word.
Later I got to know that after watching that drama a lot of people came to the local church (through which we went there) and discussed details about the subject of the drama with the Pastor. Eventually, new believers are formed there. Thus we show our drama in different parts of the country.
We generally prepare our drama regarding social inconsistency. But inside that we have biblical values and word of God. Drama can also be a part of spreading gospel. It is easy to enter into the very difficult areas with drama. Many truths can be said easily through drama.
Till now we have done 3 dramas in around 12 districts of Bangladesh. Along with that we have a training program for drama workers. We call this training “Theater for Transforming Community”. It’s a basic course for 5 days. In first 4 days we give a basic idea about drama and dramatic theory and in the last day we give training about incorporating biblical values in drama. I give glory to God that he used a common person like me for changing the society.
